On 26th and 27th May, HIH Prince Fumihito of Akishino attended the annual ordinary general meeting of Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) took place in Kanagawa Prefecture. HIH Prince Fumihito is the President of JAZA.

On 27th May, HIH Prince Fumihito and HIH Princess Kiko of Akishino attended the presentation ceremony of research grant of The Waksman Foundation of Japan took place in Tokyo.

On 27th May, HIH Princess Akiko of Mikasa visited Imperial Palace Sanctuaries to report her homecoming from United Kingdom and Spain.

On 27th May, HIH Princess Hisako of Takamado visited Kyoto Prefecture to attend the ceremony to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Asian Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

On 18th May, HIH Prince Fumihito and HIH Princess Kiko of Akishino visited Imperial Palace Sanctuaries to report their coming-back from Italian Republic.

On 18th May, HIH Princess Mako of Akishino inspected the new ocean investigation ship and attended the ceremony to pray for the safe cruise of the ship took place in Tokyo.

On 19th May, HIH Prince Fumihito and HIH Princess Kiko of Akishino visited the Mausolums of Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun.

On 19th May, HIH Princess Akiko of Mikasa visited the Imperial Palace Sanctuaries prior to the visit to Spain and United Kingdom.

On 20th May, HIH Princess Akiko of Mikasa started the visit to Spain and United Kingdom to fulfill the duty as the visiting researcher of Global Exchange Organisation for Research and Education of Gakushuin University. HIH Princess Akiko will come back to Japan on 26th May.

On 21st May, HIH Prince Fumihito of Akishino attended the ceremony to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Tokyo University of Agriculture and the reception took place in Tokyo.

Imperial Visit to Quake-hit Kumamoto

On 19th May, HM Emperor Akihito and HM Empress Michiko visited Kumamoto Prefecture to meet the residents affected by the major earthquakes that struck central Kyushu last month (the magnitude-6.5 quake on April 14, followed by a magnitude-7.3 quake two days later).
Due to the earthquake, 49 people have died and a lot of evacuees are stiil staying at the evacuation centers.
