From 26th October to 28th October, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko visited Kumamoto prefecture mainly to attend the 33th National Convention for the Development of Abundantly Productive Sea held in Kumamoto city and Minamata city.
On 26th October, Their Majesties visited a National Laper House in Koshi city.
On 27th October, Their Majesties attended the ceremonies of the 33th National Convention for the Development of Abundantly Productive Sea in Minamata City.
Their Majesties visited the monument for the victims of Minamata disease, historical pollution-caused diseases occurred in 1950s.
Their Majesties also met the story tellers of Minamata disease at Minamata Disease Municipal Museum.
On 28th October, Their Majesties visited Kumamoto Castle in Kumatomo City.
Their Majesties met Kumamon, the popular mascot of Kumamoto prefecture.
On 24th October, HIH Crown Prince Naruhito attended the ward ceremony of JAPAN PRIZE International Contest For Educational Media.
On 20th October, HIM Empress Michiko turned 79.

On 16th October, The 25th Award Ceremony of Praemium Imperiale was held and HIH Prince Masahito as the Honorary Patron of Japan Art Association and HIH Princess Hanako of Hitachinomiya attended the ceremony.
HIH Prince Masahito awarded the medals to the winners; Michelangelo Pistoletto (Painting), Antony Gormley (Sculpture), David Chipperfield (Architecture), Plácido Domingo (Music), Francis Ford Coppola (Theatre/ Film)
Before the Award Ceremony, the reception commemorating the 25th anniversary of Praemium Imperiale and HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko also attended the reception.
Their Majesties and Their Imperial Highnesses of Hitachinomiya
On 12th October, HIH Crown Prince Naruhito and HIH Crown Princess Masako attended the opening ceremony of National Sports Festival for Disabled 2013 in Tokyo. HIH Crown Princess Masako does little official duties because of mental disorder and it was the first time for her to attend the opening ceremony of National Sports Festival for Disabled since 2003.
During the festival, Imperial Family watched the games.
On 13th October, HIH Crown Prince Naruhito and HIH Crown Princess Masako watched the basketball match and wheelchair-basketball match.
On 14th October, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko watched swimming.
On 14th October, HIH Princess Hisako of Takamadonomiya attended the closing ceremony of the festival.
