Imperial Horsemanship

On 30th May, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko wateched the Dakyu (Ancient Japanese Polo) and the Horohiki (Pennants Streaming) at the horse-riding ground inside Imperial Palace.
Those performances took place celebrating the 80th birthday of Their Majesties and the successive heads of the three branches of the government during the reign of His Majesty (1989-) were invited.

After the performance, the tea party with the guests took place at Imperial Palace.

Hyogo Visit of Prince Akishino

From 28th May to 29th May, HIH Prince Fumihito of Akishino visited Hyogo Prefecture to attend the general meeting of JAZA (Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums) took place in Himeji City as the President of the association.

On 28th May, HIH Prince Fumihito visited the Cenotaph for the city air-raid victims of the Pacific War in Himeji City.

On 28th May, HIH Prince Fumihito visited Himeji Castle which is the largest and most visited castle in Japan. It was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country.

50th Anniversary of Children’s Land

On 28th May, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko attended the ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of the open of Children’s Land in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Children’s Land was founded based on the gift money which Their Majesties received from the people on the occasion of their wedding in 1959.

Their Majesties (as Crown Prince and Crown Princess) and Ms Sayako Kuroda (as Princess Sayako) attended the ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of Children’s Land in 1985.

Remembering Great Tokyo Air Raid

On 26th May, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko visited Tokyo Memorial Hall and offered flowers commemorating the 70th anniversary of Great Tokyo Air Raid. Tokyo Memorial Hall holds the ashes of about 105,000 victims of the bombing.

New Hockey Stadium

From 23rd May to 24th May, HIH Princess Hisako of Takamado visited Osaka Prefecture to attend the opening ceremony of the new hockey stadium in Ibaraki City.
HIH Princess Hisako is the Honorary President of Japan Hockey Association.
