  1. Hello! Could you tell me who is the gentleman accompanying HIH on these occasions?

    • Sharad

He accompanied her to Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s wedding too! I confess I don’t know who he is, but he is most probably a high-ranking official or chamberlain of the Imperial Household Agency.

The Japanese imperial family is organized into “households”, with each household having an appointed chamberlain responsible for its smooth running. Princess Takamado is head of her own household (herself and her two unmarried daughters, all sharing the name “Takamado”), so this gentleman is probably the Takamado chamberlain.

        Very interesting!

      • Thanks a lot for the information! This is far more I’ve managed to find anywhere else. 🙂 I’ve thought he must be somekind of an aide, like the adjutants Swedish royals have but it’s very clear he must be more than that. A chamberlain makes more sense.

I saw HIH Princess Hisako of Takamado on television here in Sweden! She’s a very elegant and charming princess.

I’m noticing a trend here, Princess Hisako sure is a pro at these Swedish events!

The princess’s hat looks like she stuck her fan underneath a pillbox…I like it!

  5. I have been curious about this too. His uniform at the wedding in Sweden did not suggest that he is a member of the Imperial household. Neither is he Japanese. The same lady in waiting accompanies HIH on all of these overseas visits and she is a senior member of the household. I wondered if this gentleman is a member of the Swedish court or simply a friend of HIH.
