Wakayama Visit of Princess Akiko


From 2nd June to 4th June, HIH Princess Akiko of Mikasa visited Wakayama Prefecture to attend the ceremony commemorating the 125th anniversary of the tragedy of Firkateyni Ertugrul took place in Kushimoto Town.
Firkateyni Ertugrul is the Turkish warship which sunk off the coast of Wakayama in 1890. At the accident, the people of Kushimoto Town helped the crews of the ship devotedly and it is regarded as the origin of the friendly relationship between Japan and Turkey.
HIH Princess Akiko is the President of Japan-Turkey Society.
