Mr Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore

On 26th March, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko sent flowers for Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore who passed away on 23rd March.
It is the first time for Emperor and Empress to send flowers to deceased prime minister of foreign country.
Their Majesties had met with Mr. Lee 11 times in the past and formed a close friendship.

HIM Emperor Akihito also sent telegrams of condolence to HE Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore and HE Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore on 24th March.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend the state funeral for Mr. Lee as the representative of Japan.
